Redeemer Bible Church is built upon the foundation of the Word of God. The Bible reveals who God is, who He says we are, and the unique purpose He has for his church. The Bible is sufficient for teaching and training the believer to every aspect of godly living. For His word tells us, God has given us all we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). Redeemer Bible Church exists to preach the whole counsel of God, make disciples, and equip God’s people to do his work and the building up of the body of Christ (2 Tim. 3:14-4:5). This foundation affirms and drives our God-given Mission and Purpose at Redeemer Bible Church.
Why does the church exist? If we claim our foundation to be built upon the Word of God, it is only fitting the Mission also be founded in Jesus Christ; whom the Bible is centered. In his example and his commission.
At Redeemer Bible Church, our mission is to glorify God by reproducing disciples to win the lost back to God.
We glorify God by enjoying and obeying Him; equipping the saints, proclaiming the life, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ; spreading His gospel to all peoples; and serving one another through the power and love of the Holy Spirit.
We believe that following Jesus Christ transforms the believer to grow and to live for His Kingdom beyond our own (Luke 9:23-24). Following Jesus affects every part of our life; how we love our spouse, how we parent, how we practice the good stewardship of our finances, time, and abilities, how we serve our neighbors near and far. Only the power found in Jesus can bring change in the lives of sinners. Every aspect of a believer’s life is never the same after becoming a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Giving our desires over to the accomplishment of his purpose for us. His church exists to exemplify that expression of love. In our doing so, the church becomes a reflection of his glory emanating to the rest of the world.
In Jesus’ final instruction to His church He states, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20) This important command to the church is our God-given purpose and duty.
The purpose of the church is to be faithful vessels to take forward the great commission.
We are not only to “teach them to obey everything Jesus commanded,” but we are also to express such obedience through the testimony of our lives. R.C. Sproul explained, “Theology must always end in doxology: the joyful praise of our Creator; otherwise, we have not truly studied the things of God.” Our active obedience to the Great Commission involves both, making disciples of all nations and instructing believers how to observe what Jesus has commanded us.
We operate not by our own will or our own strength. Jesus encourages, he will be with us to the end of the age. Jesus states, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth” (John 16:13-14). We lean on his strength and his guidance. We see this truth displayed through the first church in Acts 2. After the Spirit fell at Pentecost in Acts 2, Peter preaches the gospel and 3,000 people were saved. From here, the Apostles, enabled by the Holy Spirit, begin to progress the gospel message outwards to the greater gentile world. Emphasizing the primacy of the great commission.
At Redeemer Bible Church, our hope and joy are to honor his great purpose. We desire to raise and train mature believers faithful to this purpose. We desire to be diligent in raising up and training elders. We desire to be a sending church, intentionally planting churches for the spreading of the gospel message. We desire to be a resource to support the growth of, not only our local body, but the larger body of Christ. We desire to be a biblical church centered in the love of Christ. We desire to be a church not conformed to this world but transformed by the renewing of the mind (Romans 12:2). Above all we desire his will. We surrender our lives and the outcome of these desires to him who is great and sovereign overall.
